RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Job Description

Reports to: Owner

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing assistance to the owner in all phases of the marketing research process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gathers project input, prepares project specifications, tabulation specifications, designs questionnaires and topic guides, and analyzes data with supervision of research supervisor/director.
  • Compiles and analyzes secondary research from various sources.
  • Produces written analyses in the form of white papers.
  • Obtains cost quotes from research vendors.
  • Supervises research vendors while the projects are in the field.
  • Writes data summaries needed to evaluate various marketing opportunities and problems that may arise.
  • Develops charts and graphs for research reports and presentations.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects to inform management of current status of each project.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two year of business college or university courses required.
  • One to two years’ of related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Basic understanding of general marketing principles required.
  • Basic knowledge of typical qualitative and quantitative research designs and data collection methods (mail, telephone, mall intercepts, internet, fax, personal interviews) required.
  • Excellent project management skills required.

COMMUNICATION ABILITY

Ability to read, analyze and interpret information from a variety of secondary sources. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with vendors, internal clients, external clients and employees from the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Understanding of statistical techniques such as confidence intervals, significant testing and sampling theory.

COMPUTER SKILLS

MS Office, word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software, statistical software (SPSS).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The vision requirements include: ability to adjust focus and close vision.
